    Default Leaking oil filter.

My oil warning light started flashing today, so i pulled over to check it, bearing in mind i had changed the oil only two months ago.

My engine has always been as dry as anything with no leaks whatsoever.

When i got under the bonnet, there was oil all under the filter on the engine and some on the gearbox.

When i felt under the oil filter i got oil all over my hand, so i wiped it again and again and then there was none, so i topped the oil up and the flashing stopped, drove to my friends to have it looked at and the same happened again, touched the oil filter and it was covered in oil underneath.

The light has stayed off so far, so has the oil filter broke, or the seal gone?

When i changed the oil a couple of months ago, i did try and get the filter off but couldnt budge it, i stopped trying when paint off the filter was coming off.

Could it be that i have damaged the oil filter then, and now it is giving me nightmares.

Yes chances are yes you damaged the filter trying to get it off. Which engine is it? When I got mine it was obvious it had not had a filter in a while and I had to use a long screwdriver and a hammer, made a notch in the rim of the filter and knocked it round with the screwdriver and hammer to get it off.

    Hi,

    It is a 2004 1.8 Club Estate.

Cant understand why it has started now, as it must be 2 months since i changed the oil.

Years ago I remember a similar incident with a mate and a MKII escort, his filter was damaged and eventually it burst. Did you get a better chance to have a look today?

Could just be you managed to undo the seal just slightly

Or could be that filter it's self is split I've seen a few cars with that happen
Really need to get filter off an change
