I pour mine in through the reversing sensor switch.
?????????????? wheres that mate?
The top up plug in the top of the F40 manual gearbox requres an 8mm allen key to remove it if my memory serves me right. You will more than likely have to remove the battery and the battery box to access the filler plug. If the box is totally empty you should put 2.4 litres back in, this is the recommended amount of oil revised by Vaux to allow smoother gear changes.
The How to is here http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114196
I got T45 and T50 torx bits for this job as the link says above. Easy enough to do, just need a long extension to get at the fill plug. No need to remove the battery and box. Never needed new plugs either, just reused the originals with thread sealing tape. This job is easier than an engine oil change on this engine, the filter is a bit of a pain to get at.
