    Default Sports Catalytic Converter

    Hi all,

A friend of mine is about to purchase a sports catalytic converter.. but keep the existing exhaust system as standard.

Will this make a difference to BHP, any ideas what he could expect as a BHP gain. Or will it just effect Torque and no BHP gain...

I'm interested in any info on this also...

By the way, his car is a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi with a DTUK CR2 Tuning Box at around 200 bhp

    Cheers guys

Pointless IMO mate. Diesel exhaust tuning is quite an art.

You know I have a full decat Magnex system on mine and if not done right you can lose power. If it has a VNT turbo this can cause problems too.

My advice is forget it unless he uses a remap.

Missed you call today sorry mate, give me a call tommorrow and ill explain in further detail.

If anything, it'll drop the torque slightly but increase the bhp. You need a bit of resistance to keep the torque up.

An example was my Leon Cupra which when remapped was chucking out 225 bhp and 250 lbs/ft of torque. It had a 2.5 inch downpipe and standard cat with a stainless steel milltek exhaust from the cat back. Guys with the same engine and remap but with a 3.0 inch downpipe and 200 cell sports cat were getting roughly 230 bhp but only about 230 lbs/ft.

BTW, does your mate reckon he's getting 200 bhp out of a 2.0 TDCi with only a box fitted? Even DTUK state 160 bhp in this configuration and 186 bhp for the 2.2
