not changing gear !!!!

ok when i start my vectra 2.2 elite with auto triptronic gearbox it changes gear fine , but after a while the car symbol with the spanner going light comes on then when i get to junctions it pulls off like its in a higher gear and dont change , it just stays in the one gear , if i pull over and turn the engine off then turn it back on it changes gears again really hoping it nothing major anybody with ideas would be great

What milage has it done mate? Has oil an filter ever bin changed?

Could be the selector box it's the box of tricks that make it change is all the gears present in tiptronic ie 12345 u havnt pressed it in to winter mode by accident have you

milage it is 122,000 the guy who i got the car off the gearbox oil had been changed but only have his word got fsh upto 75,000 , also diesal wise it shocking when i got it the range warning just came on saying 31 miles so put £15 into the car and i done 47 miles so far and the range almost back to 31

when i try using the triptonic it say 2 or 5 , but yesterday it was saying 12345 , i noticed when at lights or a junction were i stopped for a while it sounds like a small bang like it changing gear ?

When it does that mate it's a problem with the gear box when it's selection 2 and 5 it's in safe mode sorry to tell u mate might be some straight forward

If you only get 2nd and 5th it means the box is in limp mode.

When was gearbox fluid changed,also is there a filter in the box.youll see that I have similar problems m8,

thanks guys was kind of hoping it wasnt going to be the gearbox , can anyone reccomend anybody in the sheffield rotherham area

the guy told me it had been done but then again he told me other stuff thats not been true ! dont know about the filter inside ?
