Fill up the filter with diesel or 2 stroke oil then start cranking it over. Crank for 15 seconds or so at most each time. If it doesn't start after a couple of goes, give it a few minutes for the starter to cool down. Once it starts to go, put your foot down on the accelerator to drag fuel through so it doesn't cut out. It will eventually kick into life but the fuel systems don't self prime on the DTi's.

If the battery starts to get weak, get another car on it. Mine was a right sod to start afterwards and the battery started to go so hooked another car up to it, gave the other car a few revs and held them up then tried to start mine. As soon as it started to cough foot went hard down on the accelerator. Once it started, kept the revs up to pull the fuel through. Just keep the filter housing full of diesel and you'll be sorted, eventually!

If the battery is dead and there isn't anyone around to jump it with, a tow start is the only other option. Get the car onto the road, hook the tow rope up, turn the ignition on and let the car in front begin to tow. Once the rope is tight and you've picked up some speed, put it into 2nd gear (about 15mph) and let the engine catch. Let the clutch out slowly and believe me you'll know when the engine engages with the wheels. Keep pulling, put the clutch in and give it some revs to keep the engine turning over. Once you're sure it has started, pull over and leave it running. Get the rope off and go for a quick drive to get any air out of the system. Mine took a couple of goes to tow start.
