Default F17 Final drive / diff

    Hi,

Does anyone know if the final drive / diff is the same between F17 gearboxes, ie Vectra C cable selector and the older rod selector mechanism?

On closer inspection of mine, it seems that the gearbox itself is OK, just the side gears are totally shot.

As I can't get a F17 with cable selector, I was thinking of just removing the diff and replacing with a good unit.

I also wonder if any other gearboxes fit the same diff unit?

    Cheers
    STE

Mr Haynes says F17 comes in either Wide or Close range versions.... but beyond the ratio differences gives no differences between the physical casings and controls.

Just to complete the story if anyone searches at some point in the future.

I managed to get an older F17 gearbox with the rod selector type. After swapping the selector assembly for my cable type and also changing the clutch release bearing (as the release bearing has a different part number on it and the external tube connector is different) I fitted the older gearbox and it all works fine. Cost me £90, got it from Derby this morning and fitted it today.
