Thread: Test drive 2mor...what to look out for?

    Engine : 1.9 CDTI 150

    Default Test drive 2mor...what to look out for?

    Right guys im test driving my first vectra 2mor,its a 2006 1.9cdti sri 150 satnav with 89k on the clock.£3,495 but will knock him down

    I spoke to the guy today(trader) and he said that it has got history as its used to be a fleet car but he doesnt think the cambelt has been done.he also said that its just come back from the garage as one of the coill springs had to be changed.


    What should i look out for while inspecting and driving the car?

    hi mate.

    dmf rattle.
    inlet manifold.
    3rd injector.
    egr valve.
    altermator noises.
    rear upper trailing arm play.

    heres a few to be getting on with, prob more though its a vectra!

    Lol - Dont scare him off.

    Also check the temp gauge as with mine the thermostat has stuck open so the car runs too cold.

    try and get it upto 60-70 mph, plenty of treads on here about wheel bobble as well.

    have a quick look at the springs they can break.

    just the normal things mate.

    What should you look out for.......well the other coil spring breaking is one.
    They should have replaced both really! They are a weak point, my front spring snapped all of a sudden, so had both replaced.

    Other things to look out for the DMF on the way out. You'll notice the noise and feel of it if there are problems, plenty of info on here about it.

    These engines get coaked up with soot and oily gunk in the EGR and inlet manifold. Also the swirl valve on the manifold can cease to operate. Again you can read up about all these problems on this forum.

    So basically if it's sluggish off the mark but goes like stink when on the move then maybe it needs a good clean up, but at worse could need a new EGR, inlet manifold (can be repaired cheaply, maybe)

    Apart from those mentioned just all other things normal to look at really, make sure it stops and steers ok and no nasty knocks etc, etc.

    Oh and BTW get them to change the cambelt, it's overdue, despite what the service book says.

    Oh yes the temp gauge, forgot that one. If it doesn't move after about 3 miles up to near 85 it's shagged. But then mine moved okish in summer, you notice more in winter.

    done be scared off mate.

    if its a good one you won't be disappointed, there nice cars.

    but i would say that, i've got one, lol.

    i've had 2 and all the faults aside, i think there great.

    Open boot and pull up the carpet. Make sure there are no creases in the floor. If there is then walk away.

    Check all electrics. Every button, switch etc. I know that obvious just so many people don't and find problems later on. I did.

    Run the air con for at least 5 mins. If it does not get quite cold could mean a re gass but also could mean a new condensor. At least 100 quid off if not more.

    Temp gauge should float around 88 - 92 might need another member to clarify this. EDIT ah already mentioned.

    Wheel locking nut key. I know obvious

    Might sound silly but look at the drivers seat bolster for wear. Had loads of wear on mine but missed it completely.

    I'm sure others will have more technical know how and suggestions.

    listen for knocking from front end over bumps, anti roll bar drop links are a common problem to.
