    Default Winter tyres & Wheels

Hi just thought I would share with you what I have done.

After much searching and wondering what size wheel / tyre to get up pops the following.

Brought a set of 7" x 17" alloy wheels (ebay) which came off a New Astra Sportive Van. £132 (for all 4)

Then brought a set of Nankang Snow SV-2 tyres £273.60 from mytyres. 2 days delivery from Germany. Used Paypal with no problems. Some people reported trouble when using credit card.

Are you just planning ahead for the winter or something specific in mind?
for example I am planning to go to Germany and am considering doing the same.

Did you look into 16 inch at all?

Nice one fella... let us know how the nankans get on.

I was talking to a colleague today about snow tyres as he has a 120d bmw, he said he'd put 16" steelies with dunlop snow tyres on his motor last year & never had a problem... he lives in Saddleworth & said he even got past a couple of 4x4's over the tops lol...

I NEED to get mine sorted. My Dunlop SportMaxx were great last year but are now retired to the rears and got some cheapies on the front.

Problem is finding cheap alloys / steelies. Ideally I need to go halves in with another member for a set of 4 pre-face sri alloys and have 2 each.

My neighbour was well prepared, she put snow tyres on her car for the winter in August!!

Yes I was considering 16" because the tyres are cheeper, but up popped the 17" alloys on ebay so thats the story.
My son lives in Sweden so I can drive there in winter if I want.
I have driven in Sweden if Feb when 12" of snow a day fell, for 6 days.
And we got around in his 530 bmw auto no problem, that convinced me about winter tyres.

Winter tyres (not snow tyres as people are incorrectly calling them) are a soft compound tyre for use in temperatures generally below 8c and they offer fantastic grip on cold dry roads, work brilliantly on wet/greasy roads and work surprisingly well on gravel roads!
THEY ARE NOT JUST FOR USE IN THE SNOW!
