    Default Auto gearbox ECU reset

My wife has a 2006 1.9 CDTI with an auto box and I was wondering if it is possible to reset the learning on the gearbox?

It seems to hold on to the gears for far too long requiring a manual change in +/- mode. Is this possible and if so, how?

    Thanks all.

What's her driving style like, the harder you depress loud pedal, the faster it will change up. If you are very light footed it will take noticeably longer.

maybe give it an gearbox oil change, that oil has most likely never been changed... may make the world of difference.. or maybe the gearbox oil temp sensor inside the box maybe faulty.. delaying the gear change, and diesels tend to be laggier through gear changes in comparison to the petrol version..

The gearbox is designed for economy. if it get to high gears to soon and you labour he car it uses more fuel. The box will only chang up when it get to the correct speed to change. If your are going downhill and take your foot of the pedal it still will not change up unless you are at the correct speed. If you use the sport button to get going it will change up faster. Then take it out of sport mode and away you go.

And to answer your question - disconnect the battery for 10 minutes ( make sure you know how to reset the windows and have the radio code if needed)
When you reconnect the battery the average milage and the trip should have returned to zero and the gearbox ecu will also have reset too

I rest all the ecu's on my mates Z3.0CDTI auto and it made no difference at all. Even took it to an auto gearbox specialist an he said box was ok. The battery was disconnected for 3 days that did not change anything.

Thanks all. I will have a go and probably end up having to put up with it if I can't reset to a default mapping.

On the plus side I replaced the drop links last night and I have got rid of the front end know
