    Default Engine Overheat/Blocked pipes?

Any input appreciated!!! just purchased car today and done less than 30 miles when noticed yellow engine light on (engine symbol with water) and car stayed just above 90 celcius, water level was rising up and down in the reservoir and then drained from reservoir completely so topped up with water again and still the same, tried squeezing pipes leading to and from radiator etc in case of air bubbles but still same problem< Engine seemed to get noiser (tappy) also...any ideas guys? Cars going straight back to dealers tomorrow but just wanted the heads up first, cheers, nervous Toaffer!

Sounds mad but check that all your fans are still intact. I had a 306 where the rad fan had been removed when i was driving it was ok as it was being cooled by the cold air hitting the front of the car. However when i stopped in holland on way back from germany to feed the lil one i left the engine running and the thermometer shot right round a STOP light come on couldnt figure it out. Let it kool and was fine this happened every time the car was idling it was over heating itself got a mate to look at it then the missus informed me her german mechanic had removed the fan as it was 'clunking' and never replaced it but she had decided not to inform me!!!!

Dunno if vectra's run off a similar fan system but maybe one to check pal

    I would guess either.

Head gaskets can go at any time, as I found out on a brand new (02 reg) Fiat Seicento, with 120 miles on the clock.

With the engine ticking over, can you see water coming back into the header tank from the top (small) hose? If not, It could just be the water pump.
