I have been advised by a very helpful member, Hairy to post this thread as hopefully one of you knowledgeable people will be able to help me !!
I have a 55' plate 1.9cdti 120bhp Vectra that developed a loud turbo whistle about 6 months ago. The turbo seems to be working fine and i dont seem to have any loss of power so in my opinion its not the actual turbo thats faulty. Hairy seems to think it may be a split hose or pipe somewhere - but as i'm not that technically minded i'm not sure what to look for. It whistles more when i rev the engine and also when going thru the gears, but once i get to 4th, 5th or 6th gear and start cruising the whistle is a lot quieter. Also when the car ticks over - just below 1000rpm - you can't hear it. The whistle only starts when the engine revs above 1500rpm. Another thing to mention is that when i turn the engine off, the whistle continues for a few seconds also.
The stealer and a couple of independent local Vx specialists have said its definitely a new turbo job, but i'm loathed to spend the money if its simply a faulty hose.
Any suggetions or advise gratefully received. Also if any members know of any local (Walsall/West Midlands) Vx/turbo specialists i could take it to that would also be a great help. Many thanks
