Strange noise under acceleration 1.5-2.5k revs?

I discovered a noise today that seems to come and go, but it has only started today.

it sounds a bit like the turbo spooling up, but much much louder, infact if you plant your foot in the carpet it will still be heard over the chugging diesel engine.

i thought it may be turbo related but i have absolutly no idea as it wouldnt do it when i was outside the car with it being revved!

there dont appear to be any air leaks, but i have recently played with a lot of hoses/tubes.

im wondering what it could be?

ANY ideas? sorry im not very descriptive but im being as vague as it appears to me!

I have a cdti that makes a noise when flooring it around 1500 as the turbo spools up, always thought it was just lag related.

even when the turbo in mine has spooled up it makes this noise, almost like the whining of a dentists drill or similar tool, but its only when i seem to use anything beyond half throttle...

any ideas?

I'm guessing it might be air intake related?

Foot to the floor - car taking in a lot of air - air leak somewhere causing the noise?

I think somebody said that they had a similar noise around this part of the rev range and it was dmf related.

Inlet mainfold air leak - just got loads worse today and discovered 3 stripped bolt threads, had to get it in the garage on thursday for helicoils and new gaskets.

oh the joy.
