    Default Smelly Air Con

My air con smells really musty and really gets up my nose to the point that I have to turn it off.

Is there anything I can clean out, and do those air con spray cleaners really work?

If I bought one and put climate control on, were about would I spray the cleaner into?

    Hi John,

I'm new to the Vectras and I'm here just trying to sort out a few issues I have with a newly purchased (2 days ago) 2002 but I saw your post. Please know that I know absolutely nothing about Vectras but I remembered a problem General Motors was having with this in their trucks. The problem turned out to be mildew growing in the moisture condensing inside the a/c evaporator. They finally did a recall and installed a fan that ran for about a minute after you turned the engine off. A quick fix that has been recommended by Popular Mechanics magazine seems to work though...

Turn off the a/c a mile from home and run the fan on high to dry the system out.

    I hope this helps.

The spray cans that you let off in the car whilst the a/c is on do work but only for a year or so.

You can also remove the pollen filter and spray some antibac cleaner into the fan (lightly) whilst the a/c is on. Does a similar thing.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I have had this issue on all my vauxhalls (though it was the wife who smelled for ages... ).

Juist in the past year I tried using the cans which you set off inside the car while the blowers are on and it does work...

Going to try the antibacterial next time as this will be a much cheaper option....

It also pays to use your aircon all year round at regular intervals, say at least once a week, whatever the weather, to cut down the risk of being plagued with harmful/smelly bacteria, when you use the aircon after months of not having used it.
