    Default 1.8 VVT Engine + Momentum 99

I've seen quite a few posts recently asking about the above engine and how it performs.

I've always felt that the engine needed a bit more torque, but a run out yesterday changed that.

I completed a trip of 330 miles from Barrow In Furness to Newcastle and back in the high winds, also going over past Scotch Corner (very high and hilly) with 3 passengers.

I filled up with Tesco Momentum (99 RON) before we set off and wasn't taking it particularly easy going there or back.

The result - the car drove like an absolute dream, plenty of power even against the 50 - 60mph winds and I acheived 44.8MPG on the way there dropping down to 40.8MPG on the way back. (Driving more against the wind coming back)

So my opinion of the engine has completely changed, plenty enough power coupled with good economy as well. Whether the Momentum fuel played a part I couldn't say but I'm well chuffed with that.

Tried a couple of tank fulls of Momentum after reading many reviews that showed smoother running and an increase in BHP. Found no difference what so ever in the way the car performed or any increase in MPG.

IMO the extra 5p Lt was not worth spending the extra money.

Alot of it is in the mind. But there have been tests done that do show improved performance, but generally its performance cars that benefit the most, especially turbos

You pay more for the fuel so you think it's better you put your foot down more the car goes quicker, it must be the fuel honest.

I use V-power but we now have a new tesco around the corner so was thinking about a switch to Momentum as I'll be it much cheaper with clubcard points and money of vouchers from shopping. I tried it once before for a few fill ups and I could tell any difference between Momentum and V-power.. So I'm thinking I may aswell go with Momentum and save some money.

I used to have a remapped 2.0T and Tesco 99 SUL (now called Momentum) made the car even livelier without any increase in fuel consumption, and was far better than the much-vaunted V-Power, which made no difference whatsoever.

I generally use tesco's finest too. Cant complain about it, although i did get poor 1/4 mile times at santapod running on it (think i just expected too much from my car tho tbh)

I like a tank of premium if going on a long run be it v power diesel / bp ultimum or a bottle of redex etc.

I think to get the benifit you need to be doing something other than running around the doors and we surely all agree you get better mpg on a long run so may as well add the benifit of a premium fuel / additive to get the max out of it.
