    Default CD70 & DVD90 Navigation Systems

I have often wondered why we are offered only the CD70 systems which are CD Rom based, and in Europe they have the choice of CD70 of the DVD based DVD 90 systems.

    I have the answer........

The UK has not been mapped for the DVD system, after all we are only a small little island!!! How **** is that.

Vauxhall are working to have it on the next generation of cars, with Antara being the first to possibly get DVD 90.

So hopefully Vectra D will have the DVD system available.

Don't know who told you that , but according to navteq:
    "Version 2006
This fully updated DVD is the perfect partner if you're driving in Europe for either business or pleasure. It includes maps for the major European countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK
    ."
always possible that coverage for UK is not complete... but why shouldn't it? navteq-data are the same as on cd (as for all the other constructors).

Anyhow DVD90 is replaced by DVD100 on Corsa and Antara (no longer Siemens VDO), probably cheaper product (made by Delphi)

The question is rather: who would buy the DVD-version in UK? - as most of you never leave the island by car

I know and that is why I often hesitate when it's about Vx... but in this case we are talking about the same SVDO navigation systems and the same Navteq material... And as I have one and as this was a rather big expense (for me), I did my homework before deciding - since then it proved to be worth the investment

The thing is, many people from Europe do think that Opel do control Vauxhall and decide on what we have here.

Vauxhall is a totally seperate company, like Holden and spec there cars in there own rights, not always in a good way but we can't change that.

No, that is not what I thought. GM Europe controls Opel and Vauxhall; and GM Europe is controlled by GM worldwide... so that doesn't make it easy not for Vx and not for Opel.... (Making good cars is one thing, but that does not suit always the financial and commercial objectives)

But I can read here everyday that Vx is an independent company with own products - and I find the differences sometimes strange, I agree, but at the same time very interesting and the common points are on the upper hand. And that is why I like it here
Am I wrong thinking that all Vec/Signums are made in Russelsheim and that in the beginning all GTS/hatchbacks were made in UK?

Anyhow don't see why we came to this, starting from satnav and wether or not UK is on the DVD that is made by Navteq for a system that is made by SVDO and which is used by Vx and Opel, often assembled in the same factory's?
