    Default New battery

Hi as posted before have had a new alternator and battery fitted last tuesday, chaecked today using volt meter and battery checker and it's showing the battery to be of low charge on the battery checker ? it lights up the amber light for 12 v but not the green at 12.5 v how long does a battery need to bed in.

I'd imagine at 12v amber , the battery is holding charge , as long as when it's running the alternator is pumping it with between 13v-14v it should be sweet.

When it's been run for 30 mins or more check the battery at idle with your volt meter.

Charging wants to be 13.4-14.1 vdc within that range is ok with all lights off and other electrics.

Then switch off and take a reading it will drop to around 12.4 to 12.7 for a fully charged battery.

When the doors have been locked the battery may increase in voltage after 20 mins approx due to the can bus wiring shutting down.

What readings have you got and how much good running have you done? or is it local stuff which weakens batteries if not fully charged.

It may have been on the shelf since the last winter and required a charge, we used to charge our stock of batteries every 2 months or so we was supposed to.

It will be fine now if at full charge and when winter comes it's best to start with your clutch in to take stress off the engine to make it easier to fire up, i do this all the time it's just habbit.
