Default Plans for less frequent MOT tests.

Just read this, safety would be compromised but it would certainly help the bank balance.
But surely driving a car for 2 years without a check could be dangerous?

I agree, and think it would be dangerous.

Personally, carrying my child in the car means I need it to be safe and up to standard at all times, 24 months check to check seems too long for me.

Not beng funny but an MOT isn't really worth the paper its written on, it just means that at that particular time the car has passed certain tests to say it road worthy not that it will be road worthy for the next year. Any thing could happen in the time between tests, so really its down to us as drivers and owners of the vehicle to make sure its kept to a good useable road worthy standard. Really they should shorten the test length to 6 months to make sure more cars are road worthy and fit for purpose.

Some countries don't even have tests like this at all! (not just third world type countries either)
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

the currant cost of a mot at the moment is high to have to do it twice a year plus the faults that mot tester always find, would be silly

If they move an MOT test to every other year then the test will take longer and cost more ... so its not going to save money ...

as said above an MOT is only a snapshot of how road worthy a car is at that moment in time ... its not a proof of a safe car beyond it leaving the Garage..

nothing takes precident over a frequent saftey checks of your tyres brakes fluids and routine servicing ..

I agree, it'll cost more to test... and then you'll get advisories for stuff that wont last the next 2 years.

    So it becomes more speculative

The mot won't take longer if it's every two years. Theres a set procedure for mot's and regardless if it is done every month or every ten years, it is exactly the same stuff that is checked so will still take the same length of time. As for cost, well that's down to the garages
