    Default Snowflake Repair

A week back I hit a pothole and thought I got away with it.

This weekend I noticed that my tyre was low so put some air in and it then when down overnight. Took it to garage today for a puncture repair only to be told that my 19" Snowflake alloy is cracked on the inside in two places (12 and 6 o'clock).

Two places near me can weld it and have quoted £65.

Is this type of repair OK, or do I have to face buying one on e-bay for £200?

Also not that I am complaining, but why has my back wheel not cracked? I suppose I better check that out also!

The rear sound like luck !

The repair is just that... A repair it's never going to be as strong a replacement and if you hit another pothole you could result in a complete failure

Go take photos of the pothole - get some quotes for replacement and then stick a claim in against the local council/highways Dept responsible for the maintenance of that road...

Better to get a new one than a repair

£200 is alot of money for 1 wheel but if I wanted to keep my snowflakes that is the route I would take, I have seen a couple of repair jobs on mates wheels and not been impressed with what I have seen

Personally I wouldn't, but it's your car & safety at the end of the day. Maybe someone elses' too.

Just to let you know that I picked my wheel up and I must be honest, I thought they had swapped the wheel. I knew it was mine as I am leaving having them refurbed till next year so had a couple of marks which confirmed it was mine.

I cannot see where they have fixed the wheel, they told me that both minor cracks were cut out on the inner lip and then filled with weld. They must have then smoothed the welds, and then painted the inner rim as it looks like new with no signs of a repair, not like some of the examples on other websites I have seen.

For £55 incl vat, re-fit my tyre, balance and put back on my car, I am over the moon as originally I thought it was a new wheel and tyre that would set me back at least £300!!!

I will use these guys again, so if you are in Essex and want "GOOD" service and a "HIGH" standard then check out Alloy Art in Sutton Road, Southend on Sea.
