I have a friend who tows with an SRi 2.2 DTi, his caravan is only 1145kg's but tows very well.

For the 2003 2.2 DTi LS, the max towing weight for the car is 1500kg, so you are fine there, you kerbweight for the car is 1470kg's.

So based on your MTPL figure of 1325kg's, you are towing at 90% of the cars kerbweight. So you will be perfectly OK with this, the general rule of 85% of the cars kerbweight is a good guide line and they say modern outfits when loaded correctly can be used up to 100% of the kerbwieght.

But you may find your percentage will drop below 90% for the following reasons.

A cars kerbweight it based on a 90% full fuel tank, a driver based at 68kg's, so once your wife and kids and their luggage are in the car, the cars actual kerbweight increases, therefore bringing down the overall towing percentage.

My caravan has a mass laden weight of 1455kg's and I tow with a Vectra SRi 1.9 CDTi150. I am towing at 92% of thecars kerbweight and have had no problems.

    Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 53 2.2dti & tow a 2004 bailey 1350kg laden, tows fine, Easy going really, I used to use a v6 mondeo and would say that this is more relaxed, I know it has more torque but it also has higher gearing to spoil the advantage. I usually also get 35ish Mpg instead of the 17ish with the mondeo. But I do miss the engine note.

    Hi i have a 2.2dti sri 53 plate and i tow a Abi Dalesman 1200kgs.
I am very impressed with its towing capabilities escpecially on long motorway journeys, due to its high gearing.
I usually stick the cruise on at about 68 - 69 mph just to keep away from the lorries (honest).
Towed to St Ives in July 330miles in 6 1/2 hrs and only needed 4th gear twice on the very steep banks on a dual carridgeway.
Another good feature on the vec is its anti stall thingy.
When on a caravan site and you need to get from the bottom to the top of the hill on the site, once you have pulled away just take your foot off the throttle and it will climb the hill all by itself without stalling. Great.
I also achieve about 35ish mpg but could get alot more if i slowed down a bit.

    Happy towing!
