Weird auto trans/ electrical issue???

Hi My car is a vectra c SRI CDTI V6 on a 53. The car is an auto.
Issue is this car drives fine in D position. But when used in active select mode where you choose your gears yourself the car somtimes goes into limp home mode. This usually happens in third gear. any ideas??? greatly recived.
