    Default Boston and New England in the fall

    - or Autumn as the rest of the world knows it.

    Got some free BA tickets courtesy of their miles deal with Amex and fancied it. We had a really good time staying in B&B (nothing like you see here) in Cape Cod plus a night in Salem (nearly left the wife there, for those in the know ). Colours of the trees were simply awesome as was the hospitality of our American friends, who aren't all like dubya.

    Upsides:
    * The scenery
    * The restuarants (no, not Maccie D's) - clam chowder to die for.
    * The people
    * The cheap shopping
    * Provincetown - which the rough guide described as - er, "a little bit bohemian", not for the faint hearted or the narrow minded.

    Downsides:
    * The Dodge charger that I rented (grey, was only missing the gun turret)
    * The shopping malls where the missus simply melted the credit cards with the cheap shopping.
    * Having to tip everyone

    Recommended for anyone who wants an out of season holiday. Autumn is fantastic. Summer there is simply crowded. Only 6hrs by plane - go on, treat your partner, he/she/it deserves it.

    Best short break I have had.

    P.S. Salem is like Walton on the Naze but without the classy atmosphere...........

    Apologies to any Waltonians!

    My sister in law is from Georgia and we went over when they got married. I've never been to a friendlier, less threatening place in my life. I was offered a job and a place to live. We stayed with a chap who was a neurosurgeon (think mansion plus horse ranch) who offered free use of his lawyers to grease a few palms re work pernits etc. I wanted to move but the wife won't go for it.

    Although with the scummy politicians promising yet more spurious tax rises, even she's getting fed up with the 'life' we lead in this country.

    Thought you could have driven to Boston (Lincolnshire) rather than flown

    Took the wife to Boston a few years back for her 30th Birthday and stayed at down town Hilton for 4 days.......

    To tell you the truth, we both didnt like it one little bit....

    I'd been to a few places in the States with the forces and loved it, so I thought I'd take the misses there for a wee surprise...wish I'd stayed at home instead....

    Ever seen the second Croc Dundee film when he's outside talking to the bell boy who unloads the cars and the bell boy wants nothing to do with him, "well for the first couple of days anyway" that was was me. I thought to myself, cause I've not got matching 10 set Burburry holdalls and stretched limo, this guy wants nothing to do with me...lol
    Maybe it was because me and the wife arrived at the Hilton in a clapped out taxi from the airport with 1 bright yellow and 1 bright purple hard case set...

    Never mind ppl, dont let this put you off going to Boston, as things like this can only happen to me.....
