    Default 3.0 v6 cambelt/water pump

hi all, im new to the site having just bought a signum 3.0 cdti.

my question is the cam belt is due to be changed and was wondering if its worth changing the water pump while the car is in bits? ive had previously z20let powered cars and was always advised to change the water pump with the cam belt because the are quite common to fail. just wondering if its the same with the 3.0 v6?

car has covered just over 100k

    cheers in advance

water pump isnt run by the timing belt on the 3.0 cdti

as your at 100k id definately be changing timing belt and tensioner

When are the belts due on this engine type? I have a 46k V6CDTi, 06 reg, no idea if belts have been done or if they need to be done.

Water pump is driven by the gears inside the engine, so no real need to change that unless there's a fault. Cam belt needs doing every 10 years or 100k miles.

As celes has said run off gears inside vx say no need to change unless fault.

It's 1.5 hour job for timing belt kit.

It's another 3 odd hours to change water pump

On the V6 CDTI it is recommended that the valve clearances are checked when the cam belt is changed, I think thats a 5 hour job.

Is it necessary to check/adjust the valve clarence on this engine, I know they say you should do this on some engines, but usually there is nothing to adjust at all, but some engines definitely needs it...

But it's a bit old fashioned to need valve adjustment, i thougt all newer engines had hydraulic valve lifters/tappets...

These engines have spacers mate and really do need checking

As mentioned it's a big job. It's over an hour of just removing electrical components fuel lines etc before you can even get to front rocker.
