Default What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Everyone,

Having followed all the good advice on the forum I have managed a few times to get the Sig looking really good with a deep shine.

However, I only need to wash it a couple of times and the shine seems to diminish a lot and water no longer beads anything like as much.
I keep hearing about wax lasting for months and wonder why mine doesn't seem to.

I have just got it looking amazing again by doing a wash, clay, wash, Autoglym SRP, Collinite 915. I dare not touch it now as it looks great and the water beading is excellent. What should I be doing/not doing to keep it looking good? I normally wash it with Turtle Wax shampoo using a Megs wash mit.

It lives outside and I do spend a lot of time on motorways in grotty weather. Is this why the wax doesn't seem to last?

I would be grateful for any ideas

Weird, Colly is normally a good hard wearing wax. Have you thought about trying to layer the wax, give it a couple of coats then wax it again the next day. Have you thought about changing shampoo? Maybe the turtle wax is too alkaline and is stripping the wax. Try some Zymol Auto Wash, easily available at Halfords.

Yes maybe. A mate of mine suggested I was using too much shampoo and suggested I used a bit less. I use a capfull in a full bucket of water as advised so I don't think this is the problem.

I will try the Zymol next weekend.

Is the turtle wax shampoo a combined wash and wax product?

You might find the wax left behind from the shampoo is sitting on top of the collinite. The beading you are seeing is not on top of the collinite but the wax from the turtle wax product. Maybe a long shot but it has been known for certain products to react with each other.

Yes it is the zip wax which is a wash n wax product. I bought 5 litres of it when halfords were selling it off at about tuppence. That's a good point about the Turtle wax sitting on top of the Colli or perhaps it is removing it.

Maybe I will keep that for the gf to wash her car which has pink (supposed to be red) paint. It cant make it much worse

Am going to try the Zymol that Dasarab suggested. It costs a lot more but if it keeps the paint looking good it will be worth it.

It does cost more, but you'll love the smell, that alone is worth the money, lol. You'll be surprised how far the bottle will go actually. Washing a car once a week it'll last about 2 months. Megs Gold Class next on my list. Using Megs Ultimate Wash and Wax(but tbh I think this is aimed at people who dont polish and wax their cars) and Chemical Guys Maxi SudsII.

The zymol is made by turtle wax under licence from zymol but it is very good.
