Default iPhone and using 141 to withhold your number

Seems there is a design flaw when using the iPhone on O2's network (which includes Tesco mobile).

I discovered by accident the other day that withholding your number by prefixing the the number you're dialing with 141 doesn't work. It still releases your number.

There is another way though without faffing about going into the menu settings to turn off sending phone ID. If you prefix the number you're dialing with #31# instead of 141 then this will stop your number from being released to the person you're calling.

Is that an 'across the board' thing, or is it exclusive to the iphone?

An iPhone 'feature' it would seem.

I tried my sim in another phone and using 141 withheld the number.

Yes, I know that, but its even quicker to just add 141 to the start of the number rather than having to change the caller ID settings twice for the occasional number that you want to call withheld.

Also, I'm highlighting the fact that someone might not realise they aren't hiding their number when they dial 141 from their iPhone.

That's the same with any phone that's on O2 (& Tesco) though, not just with the iPhone.

1471 doesn't work on the Orange network either.

Some individual operators removed the 141 function from their network years ago. God knows why.

Anyway, all hope is not lost... if you dial #31# then the number you want to call, it'll withhold it exactly the same as 141 used to.

I'm on O2 and it works perfectly.
