V6 Tim aka "Tim" from VVOC

Hi all, just picked up my Vectra C this afternoon, it's a 2006 SRi hatchback, 3.0 V6 CDTi in metallic black. Nothing fancy or anything about it, it has lowish mileage of 46k though. Absolutely bog standard car, no nav or bodykit etc, std cloth SRi trim. Nice and clean but does need machine polishing to remove scratches in the clear coat.

Fitted brand new velour gen Vxl mats when I got home (won them on ebay for £15 the other day).

Couple of probs already, rear wiper won't work, the washer jet works fine, just the wiper motor isn't engaging when I flick the stalk/switch, unless it is on very slow timer/relay?

No rear boot light, has been disconnected and it isn't in the boot.

Cruise control worked for some of the time on the way home, now I can't seem to get it to engage again for longer than a split second?!

Some of you may know me from VVOC.com, I was a North West rep for a while.

Welcome to the forum Tim. The clutch return spring will need renewing. Pennies from the dealer.

As a tester, nip off for a drive, get up to a speed you want to cruise at, pull your pedal back up with your foot underneath it and flick on your cruise. It should work now

crackin lookin motor tho. whats ya plans?. and a clutch spring is cheap as chips and easy to change if thats the issue

When you've sussed whether it's the clutch return spring or not, then if it's NOT the clutch return spring, another common fault is the stalk contacts getting dirty.

Try gently pushing the stalk away from you (whilst driving over 30mph) and engaging CC. If it works, then drops out if you apply gentle pressure towards you, then it's dodgy contacts.

The stalk can be removed easily: unseat the rubber gaitor and pull it out. Careful: you have to pull quite hard, so make sure you are pulling exactly parallel to the stalk and BANG! Out it comes.

You will proabaly see the contacts are quite dirty. Another thing that happens is that the contacts in the CIM (black box that the stalks and ignition key goes into) get flattened down. It's possible to (but fiddly) to raise them back up, probably using an improvised tool to get in there.
