Default Going to take my car in for Battery test, could be alternator failing

    Hi guys,

Not sure what's up with my car this past month could be the battery or the alternator. Its a 07 1.9 CDTI 150
Car did not start on two occasions. Jump started fine instantly.
Going to take car in to have free battery test.

    Voltage measurements
Engine off the voltage measures - 12.0V
On ignition the voltage drops slightly it measures 11.8V
Engine running voltage measures 14.0V (Blower off, Stereo off)
Engine running voltage measures 13.8V (Blower on, Stereo on)

Hope is not the alternator at fault. Car has done 65K. No battery warnings whatsoever, car drives fine once started. Just the bit of starting up, worries me lol, especially on cold days .

Your readings would indicate that your alternator is working fine.

So prob your battery or something else.

    Starter motor?

    Thanks.

I'm thinking it might be the battery, is just on odd occasions or cold conditions not getting enough cold cranking amps to turn the engine over.

So thats why i'm going to test the battery first.

I have had dealings with a chap at South Yorkshire Battery and the equipment he uses to test battery and alternators gives a 'straight up' diagnosis. The modern diagnostic equipment is spot on m8 and should put you right

Very strange still trying to find out what it is, i took my car to several tyre places for free battery test, every one of them say noise on battery when testing, so then i took it to auto electrician for test, he said the battery need replacing from his readout. Anyway my battery once went flat after two days without use, so i did a battery test on it, where i disconnected the battery for two days then reconnected it two days after, and car started up perfectly. hmmm scratching my head again. But the annoying thing is auto electrician said i need new battery. Disconnected all my mods thats linked direct to the battery.
