Thunder Road was originally conceived as an event to give the owners of high performance cars from the General Motors stable the chance to really see what their cars are capable of.

The format of the event this year is basically a 2 lane Run over a ONE MILE - STRAIGHT LINE distance. Times are given for the Mile Terminal Speed, and Elapsed time. In concept it more SPRINT than race. The timing starting when you break the beams not when the lights go green.

We are delighted to announce that this year THUNDER ROAD goes back to roots with an event specifically designed for all Performance VAUXHALL's including VXR's. The event this year is being supported by VXR POWER EVENTS. All Entrants and Supporters with a BBQ LUNCH and Refreshments all day included in the Entrance and Supporters price.

The Vehicle Classes for the event will consist of the following:-

    A - Up to 1600cc

    B - 1600cc to 2000cc

    C - 2000cc to 2800cc

    D - Over 2800cc

The organisers reserve the right to alter class structures dependant upon levels of entries per class.

The event is open to VAUXHALL cars only

Please note that due to the event taking place on a secure MOD site it is necessary for all those wishing to attend the event to book either as a driver or spectator.
For security reasons you will not be able to turn up on the day without booking

Well I've seen 145mph on the GPS recently on a PRIVATE road and I'm going to a rolling road tomorrow to see what it is doing now. I will have a look on my calendar and maybe come along.

Should be hitting at least 100mph at 1/4 mile but the next 3/4 would go very fast, 20-30 second more accelerating would not see me hitting top speed.

Remember though that Thunder Road isn't a standing start event. So the start marker beam is broken when you pass it. What's unclear is how fast you will already be going when you pass the start marker.

At RAF Marham they had a 20-30 mph start rule, so you had to pass the marker between those speeds.

This means you will be well over 100 mph at 1/4 mile point

I reckon (not scientifically) if you hit 1/4 mile at 100 mph your power delivery will only give you around 15 seconds MAX before you run out of the remaining 3/4 mile space. At which point you're probably covering a clear mile every 20-25 seconds
