Yes, there is a setting somewhere.

What stereo, as it might vary between models.

On a CCR2006 for example you have to press and hold down the tuner button until it beeps. The display then shows something like "SD VOL +2". Adjust the number by pressing the < or > buttons (from 0 to 5, IIRC). When it displays "SD VOL +0" the auto vol control is switched off. To storre the setting, press and hold Tuner again until it beeps.

On a CD70, it's in the volume sub menu.

I find setting it to number 2 is about right. Just automatically raises the volume slighty without it being deafening.

On the CD70, I think you hit the SETTINGS button and it AVC or something like that.
I find it really useful when setup correctly. Try to play with the settings first before setting it to 0.

Setting SD VOL 2 works best for me too, on a CCR2006. Just starts to increase it at 60mph when the wind/tyre noise starts to intrude a little. Any more and it starts to get a bit too loud compared to the road noise.

It does say quite clearly in the manual how to change it - which you can also download in PDF form online.

You should be able to download the manual from http://www.opel-niedersachsen.de/radio.html

Just looked. Not mentioned in the V5C log book anywhere.
