Default Service Costs on Vectra Life 2005

    Hi,
My son bought a vectra life 2005 last sept with 23,000 on the clock. he has now done 36,000. Took it to a vauxhall garage to get a service (£260) before the network q warranty ran out. They also have advised that the cambelt needs changing £326, o/s headlamp £277 and both steering arms (mot failure) £332.
Does anyone know what if any saving (approx) could be made by taking the car to a non franchised dealer for the cambelt, headlamp and steering arms. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Vehicle : Vauxhall Vectra Hatch

Trim : SRI with added X-Pack

    Engine : 1.9 16v 150

    Year : 2006

    Mileage : Near 100K

    Default

A saving will be made taking the car elsewhere, and using non-genuine parts.
When replacing the timing belt ALWAYS AND I SAY ALWAYS replace the timing belt tentioner and idler AND waterpump as have known for these to fail on Vauxhalls before.

I personally prefer to stick to genuine parts as much as i can, helps when i can get them at trade discount too.

You'll pick up a headlight off of ebay for about £60 and its an easy job to replace. Whats wrong with it anyway? £322 for steering arms? Track rod ends are £10 each. Sure they didnt mean the wishbones? tbh id be surprised if they were away on a car thats only done 23k. Might be worth getting a second opinion on them. Im assuming its a 1.8 as thats 6 years or 60k everything else is 100k or 10 years. XPCobra is right the wate pump should be changed but with that mileage I wouldn't bother.

Thanks to you both for your help. I'll get him to take it to another garage this week and get a second opinion.

Just reread that again, surly the warranty should cover the steering arms should it not?

If its the Z18XER engine then the water pump is run by auxillary drive belt

Apparently network q has stated that if it was an internal issue with the steering they would cover it, but as it is not they will not.
