There are loads of threads on what oil, but I think 0/40 is a new one. I don't recall seeing that one before, and I would be very wary of using it in any car of mine.

oi you, why not just ask me....lol

either 05/30 or 10/40 (changed every 10k miles)are good, never heard anyone use 0/40 before but if stigy is a mate i am sure he wouldnt use something that is unsuitable...

10w/40 semi synthetic Fuchs Titan XTR in it at the moment. Gets changed about every 5-6k. No smoke, nice and quiet and it's pretty damn cheap too. Under 20 quid from Opie Oils for 6 litres of it.

0W40 is acceptable and comparable to 5W30 oil if you have been using 10W40 previously
0W40 is a general synthetic oil and we recommend this when it is going to be used in various vehicles (rather than a specific one)

I have also used Tesco 0W40 Synthetic as a topup, as 2 litres was £4 (clearance)

I have always used fully synthetic oil as long as its 5w30 but its got to be magnatec or similar and its changed by date not miles ...going on to my 10th oil change and motor is still on 33k miles ...makes you wonder if it was worth it as its going in to garage Weds to get all the timing gear changed and the tensioner for the second time

Yes, I too would only use synthetic oil especially once at higher mileage
For low mileage and regular oil changes (less than OE specification) I would use a semi-synthetic or lower grade oil (such as 10W40)

I am staying with the original OE service schedule and oil at the moment, and not had any issues

The only car I had an issue with was a Ford Mondeo, however that too use the original OE service schedule and oil, the engine was destroyed six weeks before first MoT

Historically I've always used Castrol GTX Magnatec either 5/30 or 10/40. However did an oil and filter change at the weekend and just bought the Vauxhall 5/30 fully synthetic stuff as it's better and cheaper with trade club. (£44 down to £18 for a 5 litre bottle).
