Red face HELP. How to remove the tray under the Heater Panel

Got the LED's to update my heater panel, steering wheel controls and dash but I have hit a stupid little problem.

I can't seem to remove the tray underneath the heater panel. No matter how much I pull it just bends and will not come free. I don't want to pull too hard and snap something.

I have read from LEE_GSI's Interior LED conversion (how too section, my Bible ) that it should just pull out, but I did notice that this was from a pre facelift. Not sure if that makes any difference mind you

I have a SRi 2006 Facelift. Any tips or tricks would be great as its stopping from me from getting closer to finishing my interior LED conversion.

Also sorry Admins/Mods if this was the wrong section to post in. It was a toss up between here or the Styling section but was unsure so plonked for here.

    Thanks all

LOL. Okay then I will leave it until I have had a really bad day at work then I will be better suited to attack it. Crikey though it does bend a lot which is what made me nervous in the first place.

Remove the heater matrix panel by pulling on the left hand side , then you can get one hand in behind the tray and push it out as well as pull

Could do with getting mine out too to sort out my steering controls. Just stick a screwdriver down the side of the heating panel or grab the knob and pull? Only pushed it out before from the radio slot.

I found the easiest way to get that cubby out is to use your thumbs, so your hands are either side of the console and your thumbs are in the cubby and pull.

A long time since this thread but this issue is causing me a nightmare. Did anybody actually get it out in the end? I have put excessive force and it doesnt seem to move?!? I need to remove that cubby hole to do some wiring for my parrot and road angel.

I just put my hand/fingers in the cubby hole and push down and the bottom pops out.

I removed the ashtray and the ciggy lighter surround by firstly removing the gear leaver gator. You will notice the ciggy lighter surround and flip lid is stopping the cubbyhole from coming out easily. Once you do these things then it slips out very easily
