    Default Drilled airbox on a vvt

    i've done the airbox mod, but ive heard of ppl drilling aswell. Anyone done this and where are you drilling and what size bits are you using?

    Dont bother mate, the big V6 turbo may see a benefit but not on your's mate.

    Hmmmm, I disagree Rushy. I think the easier the engine can breathe the better IMHO. It’s not all down to size!

    The VVt will not drag enough air to need it, my 2.2 doesn't so the N/A 1.8 defiantly doesn't. N/A tuning is totally different to forced induction, the size and length of runners whether its in the manifold or from the filter to the TB makes a difference. Upsetting this balance can be detrimental to torque, and with our N/A petrols torque is something we dont have much of.

    Edit: I know were talking pre filter but that air shuttle affect in the intake pipe needs to be kept as is.

    Just had a look at the link, looks useful but you havent drilled have you? did you notice any difference?

    Yeah, fair points. As the mod will be pre-filter I surmise freeing up air flow to the box would have some benefit. I could be way off the mark though

    Yeah mate better higher up in the reve range. I have the 2.2DTI forced induction though.
