    Default Engine life

    Hi guys,
Im on the lookout for a vectra c 1.9 cdti 150(sri) and am struggling to find a car within my 3k budget with less than 110,000 on the clock.Ive never owned a diesel car before so im not sure if 110,000 is high milage.Ive only ever owned petrol cars before so 110,000 seems a heck of a lot of miles for a car thats only 6/7 years old.

Realistly what kind of life expectancy would i be looking at from a 1.9cdti 150 engine if i kept it serviced regularly and well looked after.

3k is the most ive ever spent on a car and it makes me nervous as all of my prevous cars have been money pits

    Thank for looking

A high mile CDTi is more likely to have had all the "common faults" sorted ... Inlet manifold, clutch and DMF, alternator....

One of the main things ive looked out for is either a full service history and one with all the work done.Saying that theres alot out there that are due or over due for cambelt change which is a little worrying as i dont want to have to shell out another few hundred ££ after ive brought it.......

....which brings me to my next question...private(get the car cheaper) or dealer(some sort of warranty)

A well looked after private car could be better than a dealer one mate. If it's due a cambelt use it as a bargaining tool ;-)

I tried to bargain with a private seller who had a 2005 sri forsale with 98k on the clock.I mentioned the cambelt and she said its not due untill 100k and would not lower the price(£2,800) because somebody else would buy it how isnt bothered about the cambelt

    Nice!

It was 100k or 10 years but the water pumps can fail about that mileage so Vauxhall reduced it to 80k or 8 years.
