Took the kids to Legoland yestarday which is just under a 140 mile drive.
All was well until about 4 miles out of Winsor, when the spanner light came on and the car cut out. The temp gauge was up to 90 (normally runs at 85) but not to concerned at the time as it was a really hot day and we were in slow moving traffic. Managed to start the car again and get out of the flow of traffic, lifted the bonnet and everything felt hot, even the metalwork at the front where the bonet locks into place was almost too hot to touch so it was a call to Mr AA man.
After 45 mins he arrived and had a quick look around. Plugged his machine in and found no fault codes and the spanner light had gone out so he said all he could do was follow us the rest of the way to make sure we were ok. Got to Legoland and he left us but just as we were about to park the spanner light came back on.
Had a great day once there, but the journey home was in the back of my mind all day. Anyway time came to come home and no issues at all. The car ran fine. Temp went back up to 90 initally then as we got moving it crept back down th 85 where it stayed. lifted the bonet when I got home and the metalwork at the front where the bonet locks into place was cool to the touch.
So I am now well confused, do you think I have issues that need attention or was it probably just a glitch due to the heat and really slow moving traffic?
Any advice is appreciated. The car is a 2.2 Direct on a 58 plate which has always been serviced and looked after.
