    whats the benefit - if any - of drilled and grooved front and rear discs??

    The theory is it helps to distribute heat across the braking surface and so improve braking.

    I had them on my preface and they felt 100 times better than the stock brakes but I don't know if that's because the old ones were so badly worn the car could hardly stop!

    IMO yes, I had ebc on my gsi, front and rear with red pads, they were ok, I went back to OE discs and police spec pads and braking was immense over after Market stuff, just voicing my opinion!

    I'll be getting another set as and when I need to replace the bog standard set on my 1.9cdti but that's probably as much to do with liking the way they look throu the alloy.... Plus I couldn't afford a calliper upgrade.

    Cheap drilled disc's can crack (Had 2 sets crack myself) but grooved disc's deglaze the pads and help remove the build up of hot gas between the pad and disc under hard breaking.

    Having said that there is no substitute for surface area so go bigger if possible,

    Also defo do a full brake fluid change, helps lots!

    Yip your probably spot on there. However I went with drilled n grooved. the look class IMO
