    Default drive shafts?

    All,

A few months ago I noticed if I accelerated reasonably when I was going round a corner, i could hear a kinda rumble noise coming from the car. More recently, when I come through the clutch there is a kinda popping noise coming from the car as well. I'm wondering if the CV joints or the drive shafts might have an issue? Any thoughts on what it could be?

It doesn't seem suspension related as the noise doesn't happen when going over bumps only when power is applied. When driving smoothly there is no noise. It is most noticable moving away from stop into 1st perhaps because there is least road noise.

I've checked the boots and none of them are split (inner or outer)

    Thanks,
    Ian

Knackered CV joints sound a bit more like when you crack your knuckles than a rumble. if you know what I mean? Turn the steering full lock and drive off slowly, you'll soon hear them.

So the kinda popping noise happens even when the wheels are straight. At first I thought it was like a creaky spring but it doesn't make a sound going over speed bumps etc just when I come through the clutch and the power goes to the wheels.

ok so a friend of mine suggested engine mount and said I should try and "rock" the car with the hand brake on to see if it still made the noise and the engine moved. I can't hear it. I've also tried slowing the car down sharply in neutral and I can't hear it so it only appears to be present when power is being applied to the wheels or taken away. most noticable in 1st & 2nd.

Just seen this thread. Nice find on this one. Had found a loose engine mount on the front of mine, no reason as to why except it was in a light front ender but didnt give no knocking noises.. Had it happen once before on an old escort van i owned, could tell it was the engine mount as when i went to pull off the bonnet raised up!

Above is what I found. not particularly happy but at least it was an easy fix and didn't cost anything.
