I have 7 bikes in various states of build. 2 of them being fixies. Commute when ever I can. Currently looking at a recumbent, but having just spent the price of a good used car on a custom build think it will be some time before I get one.

I've got a Halfords £100 bike, use it a lot, but it's a load of crap. I've spent more time adjusting the disk brakes on it than I've spent working on the brakes on my Signum, but they still squeak like crazy even when you're not touching the brake lever.
