    Default Gearbox & Clutch Faliure?!

    Filled Up this morning and as I accelerated out of the station, there was a loud thud noise and the car slowed (I did not brake), I then couldn't get the car into 2nd or 3rd gear - First and Fourth were fine, did not try 5th. However even when in first I had no drive.

    Got the car home now, and the current situation is;

    Get in car, handbrake is on, start ignition, clutch down, select first (all gears now engage fine), clutch up, Car will rumble like it is about to stall. I now have my foot completely off the clutch, release handbrake, car will very slowly crawl forward, but adding revs does not make a difference in speed. Reverse is the same.

    There is no oil leaking or metal shards underneath the car, is it possible both the gearbox and clutch have failed? Car had a new clutch 15k Miles ago.

    Cheers

    Matt

    did it have a full clutch kit of just the plate, even so if the clutch has let go it should be under warranty.

    Sounds like the clutch more than the gearbox and the chances of them both failing at the same time are remote - who did the clutch - if it was a garage I would be going back to them first off see what they say. If you did it yourself you will need to strip it down to have a look whats what. Good luck with it!

    clutch was done by a friend of mine, was full clutch kit.

    will have to go and check but yes im pretty sure 2nd selects when the cars off

    lee, its 1.8 petrol x18xe, no flywheel done but im not sure they are recommended on this model (plus its dealer only at 400+vat!)

    Same guy that did clutch is gonna strip it down on the weekend to see whats what. Hoping for just the clutch!!

    Cheers

    Not sure if they have a duel mass flywheel or not.

    If they do they are ment to be changed at the same time as the clutch.

    Hope its a cheap fix for you.

    update: looks like its just the clutch, seems like one of the rivets failed and it tore half the clutch material off - will post pics later.

    also to note - the slave cylinder that came with the kit was a modified part. instead of the curly metal bit that goes through the gearbox housing to the hydraulic line it just had a plastic tube that goes up through, BUT you end up with two "male" ends and nothing to connect them. VX doesnt list the part as modified but to stop confusion i manage to source an older SC instead of trying to track down this "modified hose kit".

    Box going back in in the morning, job should be a good'un!
