Default Anyone driven in South Africa?

Going to Cape Town in a few weeks with work, taking the missus with me so we can do some sightseeing.

Going to hire a car down there (hotel I'm at does very cheap deals) but not driven in that part of the world before.

Anyone got any tips for me?

I haven't but have some SA friends who live over here. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH THE TOWNSHIPS. they are pretty hostile places. muggings, rape, guncrime and car jackings are rife in these area's. Its not just the women they rape either.

    Have a happy holiday

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

    Cheers!

Been to Cape Town a few times, not seen anywhere that looked too dodgy, but I'll be on the lookout.

Might have to ask the hire company to swap that economical supermini with something a little quicker...

A great place to visit depending on how long you have. A drive along to Cape Point calling into Simon's Town & if you fancy a swim Fish Hoek is a safe beach. Drive back to CT via the coast road & Chapmans Peak in the evening & watch the sun set is a beautiful site. Blouberg Beach will give you the opportunity to take the Table Mountain picture to treasure.
The Waterfront in CT is the tourist spot. Have a fantastic time .................

I went to South Africa a few years ago, got stopped by a customs official at the airport. "Are you carrying a firearm, Sir?" he asked. No, I replied. "Here you go Sir, you can have this one" he said.
