    Default CV Joints / Driveshaft

    I'm getting a clonking sound at low speed (20-30mph) when I drive on poorly surfaced roads.

    It sounds like suspension, but bushes, dampers and springs seem okay to my untrained eye.

    However, if I grab the LHS drive shaft, I can move it a couple of mm inboard/outboard, and it makes the same "clonk" sound I am hearing from inside the car at each end of the travel. Trying to move the driveshaft on the wife's Golf (110k miles) and I can't move the shaft at all.

    Is this normal?
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Will it be just the outer CV or the driveshaft as well?
    Any idea of likely repair costs?

    Worn CV joints tend to clunk more when turning a corner - does this make your noise worse ?

    no i have this nose to,i think they said it was the drivers side roll bush or something the garage said it would cost me £54:00+vat

    Not really. It just clonks away on uneven roads, on the straight, same around the corners.
    Handling seems normal otherwise, and at higher speeds, the noise can't be heard.

    Even although the bushes look fine they still may need replaced. Have you looked at the drop links?

    driveshaft is normal , jack it up and pull at the bottom of the wheel ,push it out then in whilst looking at the bottom balljoint , will prob be the lower ball joint so need to replace the wishbone , easy enough job .
