Default Close One On The WEay Home....

Had a bit of a near miss on the way home tonight, certainly established that the anti-locks work on the Megane I was driving. (Avis hire car, not mine!!)

Was coming home from work in Glasgow, towards Kilmarnock, and got stuck behind a queue of 3 big trucks on a stretch of the dual carriageway near Eaglesham. Waited until there was a suitable gap in the other cars passing them, indicated, and moved out to pass. Just as I passed the rear corner of the 1st articulated truck I noticed him sticking his indicator on. No worries I thought, he's just showing that after I've gone past, he wants to overtake the other trucks too. But no, I got about a car and a halfs length along and he just decides he's pulling out into my lane!

There was no way I was going to make it past him before he shoved me into the central barrier, so I just had to get over as far as I could and slam on the anchors and hope for the best. Drivers side wheels were certainly on the grass reservation. I was honestly amazed that I managed to drop back quickly enough, I was was absolutely convinced he was going to at least take the front corner off my car. Even though I knew he hadn't hit me, I still checked when I got home.

I honestly don't think he had the slightest idea I was even there. I accelerated again and went past him, and not even a wave of apology or a flash of the lights. Was raging!

Horrible feeling, when someone else puts you in the position where your options are limited or non existant.

It's not good when you have a heart condition, I can tell you!

To be honest, I'm just thankful that there was nobody right behind me, or they would have been parked in my boot. Annoying thing is that I would have got the blame for that, even though it wouldn't really have been my fault in the first place.

I probably should have, but was just glad not to be upside down on the central barrier!

Would have been their fault for not leaving enough stopping distance.

A Similar situation happened to me on the M25 back in 2008. I was travelling in the middle lane through the road works when a foreign lorry decided to pull into my lane just as I was passing his passengers side door. He hit us on the passenger side rear quarter where my 6 month old daughter was happily asleep in her car seat. We span round 360 and ended up stuck to the front of his lorry as he pushed us sideways down the M25 for a few hundred yards untill he reallised what had happened and slammed the anchors on which then spun us off into the road works. Luckily no one was seriously injured apart from the mrs suffering some whiplash. Funny thing is my little one was still fast asleep even when we had stopped. Needless to say I had a few choice words with him before the fuzz turned up. But on the bright side. If it hadn't have happened i'd never had bought my first Siggy and wouldn't have enjoyed this site for the past few years.

Yip, you trumped me with that one fella!

It's a horrendous feeling knowing that something is unavoidable and totally outwith your control. Glad nobody was seriously injured.
