Thumbs down Horn is rubbish, 04 1.9cdti

    Morning,

Hopefully a quick one, I got cut up last night, hit my horn to hear the sooty and sweep van horn sound emit from somewhere under by bonnet.

Has anyone upgraded these, if I do this will it just be plug and play? Or will I need a Tech2 or OPCOM session to match this in?

Most likely yours is just fitted with a single horn, on the passenger side, behind the bumper, under the headlight. You can get the other side pretty cheaply off ebay and its just a case of removing the bumper, bolting it on and inserting the plug that should already be there. Check which one you already have, should be 500hz I think, its then the 400hz one you need.

It's certainly only a single horn, but will check under the bonnet tonight to make sure it is not twin horn and failing to work.

After that a search on Ebay....

If I decide to fit aftermarket (non OE) will i need to map them in or will they just plug and play?

    Thanks

Unlikely you'll see anything unless you remove the front bumper.

The existing horn plugs might not fit after market ones......I ordered a set of VXl twin tones for our Vectra c Facelift 1.8 Z18XE Club - ones that were supposedly for the Vectra C - the sockets on the body of the Horns supplied were different.....so be aware!!!!

    Cheers

pmsl, following with interest, first time I used mine I wondered if they were working.
I want somehing that says "GET OUT OF MY WAY", not "please, would you mind, if it's not too much trouble..."

To fit aftermarket ones you'll need to remove the bumper, splice into the loom, make up a small loom with electrical connectors, solder the new loom into the old loom, mount the horns, and if you have front foglights you'll need to mount one of the horns on the other side as there is only room for one as the orgional one sits just above the foglight. Much easier just to fit VX ones to the other side as its plug and play. Whip the bumper off, its dead easy.
Heres pics of what you should fine and what your looking for when you take the bumper off. First pic is of the horn you will have, and the second pic the connector your looking for and the nut you remove to mount the second one. Youll actually need to get 2 horns, and remove the original one, to get a good horn sound, ill link you to eBay for that.
