Default Lock on the River Dneiper.

    Whilst in the Ukraine.
I saw this motor boat approaching the lock. So I thought it would be nice to watch it,s progress.
The lock was in our terms massive. The depth of the lock to the water level ( when at low level) is 15 meters ( but there is still about 3 meters of water there). The water is pumped in and out by several huge pumps ( you can see the round water disturbance in one of the photos).
It can cost between £30 to £50 to get your boat through the lock. Sometimes boats wait for another boat to come along, so they can split the cost. I timed the boat getting into the lock, untill it was full of water and it took an impressive 16 minutes to fill it.
HG. This is a propor lock............................ Not like our quaint ones.

I notice that in the first picture there are lots of cables stretched over the river.
Is that to keep the Gulls off the water ?

    Nice pics Ed.

Not bad mate. Tell you what though (I will post a photo late).
On the first photo, that is down stream "so to speak". In other words below the Dam (as this area is a Hydro power station). There are loads of fishermen, and they congregatein their rubber dinghies there because when a turbine is wound up all the fish get sent through the dam. Thus................. good fishing
I was privileged on a previous visit to be shown around the power station (they would not let me take any photos, for obvious reasons). But it was a facinating visit. The turbine rotor was about 50 foot in diamiter. But took only 90 seconds to stop it .The brake was many "hydrolic jacks with, break pads "sort of thing" the drought was trementus when the rotor was in full flow.
