Thumbs up MOT and retro-fitted HID

Took my car for it's MOT yesterday, totally forgetting that I had retro-fitted an HID kit for the dip beam soon after I bought the car almost a year ago.

Needn't have worried, it passed on the lights....needed drop links and a brake pipe though.
I did ask about the HIDs when I went to collect, and was told that the beam pattern was good so couldn't fail them.

He also said that all this talk of them being an automatic MOT test fail is just that - talk. He also said that so many cars now have HID lights that he didn't think anything of it and that he has them on his 1979 VW camper van too.

    Just so you know!

There's already several threads about this. The new MOT rules don't come into effect until January NEXT year.

An MOT tester I spoke to recently said that he's just been on the refresher course and among new things that were discussed, HIDs didn't even get a mention.

If people keep on rumourmongering then it wouldn't surprise me if someone in authority makes it happen. All for the sake of the small handful of people who incorrectly fit the wrong HID kits which will spoil it for the majority of people who ensure that they are set up correctly so as not to cause undue dazzle to other motorists.

Aye, but there are a helluva lot more threads started by people wanting to fit the HID kits.
