    Default Diognostic tool revisited

Due to the fact that the diagnostic tools I was looking at were classed as clones my last thread was closed

This time I'm would like help finding a diagnostic tool that is not a clone, at the same time I only want to be able to read faults I have no need to reprogram anything (and I wouldn't like to try),

So is there any cheaper versions that just read and clear faults

Hi, There are several cheap diagnostic scanners available (try Ebay) but most have very limited functions, and will not always identify faults and some will not clear them anyway - perhaps other members can advise on the better ones.
The best system is Op Com (genuine of course!) which runs via your PC - it will do a lot of the things (but not all) GM's Tech 2 system will do. Unfortunately it costs hundreds of pounds and is not a viable option for most members. As you are aware I am not allowed to mention the other option - apparently it breaches copyright regulations and the Forum Organisers have quite properly refused to allow any mention of it on the site. Other sites will discuss it quite openly leaving the morals of it to the individual.
Appreciate your question - its a bit galling to have to go to a dealer to be charged to have your problem diagnosed before you can even start to repair the car - but hey there you go!
    Good luck with it

mine wasn't from that seller either, the seller i got mine from was in York... i just found on in uk at a reasonable price as they do vary

the talk of cloned stuff is basically a pirate copy of a well known pc/laptop based tool which is not allowed to be discussed on the forum for legal reasons

make sure your intended reader can read all types of codes. I *think* it needs to be OBD2 (OBDII) compatable. You could end up with something only able to read the 'check engine' codes from the engine ECU, whereas you want to be able to read 'spanner light' codes as well.

    I use one of these..

No probs so far, and saved me money as garages charge more than the price of this to read the codes
