Default Drone/hum - crap tyres or wheel bearing?

What originally sounded like dull drone from cut tyres is now becoming more of a mid range hum which starts at about 35mph and gets louder as speed increases... does this follow the pattern of cheap tyres becoming increasingly uneaven or is it more likely to be a knackered wheel bearing?

Sounds like tyres to me. Not just cheap ones either. Had a pair of michelins not too long back - they were awfully noisy towards the end of their life. Try swapping the front/rear wheels round to see if that makes any difference.

I'd say the tyres are the droning you can hear. Funny thing I had dead Nexen's up front and dead NCT5's on the rear, no noise at all. Now I've got brand new Rainsport2's all round I can hear a light drone noise on the motorway Nevermind, I just turn the radio up!!

Going round bends and in a straight line, the hum is consistant which is what makes me think tyres but having never had a car with either a wheel bearing or cut tyres, I dont know. The tyres in question are Maxxis Vitras, which I understand are not particularly well regarded to start with.

I have had Rainsport 2's on the rear for 2 years now and they have got noisier and noisier over the time I've had them! Needless to say I won't be buying them again!

    Hi

    Ihave an 08 CDTI 150

Have Maxxis tyres on and I have exactly the same issue. Front wheel bearings checked and no play at all, so I am inclined to think it is tyres also, very annoying though
