Gen VX only mate, and only use gen VX oil filters as pattern ones have been known to break down and block the oil jet for the chain.

Cheers rushy .. Tbh mate I think the mechanic who I took it to yesterday wasn't really interested or trying to rob me blind , he actually quoted me £300 labour ( without parts ) & he wanted my car for 3 days. so I just said not a chance .*

I think I'm going to do a service on it (oil & flush & filter ) see if that helps at all. because when I 1st start the car up after its sat for a while , its quiet . no rattle or noises ! So I'm thinking maybe the " oil jet " is getting glogged ?! . What you think mate.

Mine used to make a right noise, but only when the engine was warm, not hot not cold but warm. Was told it sounded like a lifter problem and was advised to give it a good flush and use the thicker vx oil 10w40. That was about 3 years ago and its been fine from then.

    Default

Vx dealer has just re-done my chain under warranty, had to clean oil ways, etc and fit new oil pump and told me they would only advise putting 10w40's in due to mileage (90K).

That's exactly like mine rushy ! Well when I bought the car , the mechanic insisted I put 5/30 in. so that's what I've done. Well I'm going to flush it all tomorrow and you recommend I put that oil in ? , my mileage has only just turned to 75,000 today .

I wish my car was under vx warranty :-( lol

    Thanks again for advice gents

10w40 mate, at 75k its a good time to start using it as well. Keep in mind though that the oil will need changing every 10k though with 10w40. Flushing can bring on its own problems however and its not advised if its not been done that often. Mine has been flushed every 10k. I got a new engine when the car had 30k on the clock. The cars done 80k so the new engine is on 50k, and its been flushed from new.

PS, this is a vid of the noise my engine used to make.

Mine starts like that but only if I've not driven it for a few days . I'm a bit confused now weather to flush it or not , the noise it makes isn't like your video on a daily basis , just after I've driven to and from work its got a slight noise. its weird but I honestly don't think it is the chain . I've had this same engine before and the chain went like your video on the on the 1st one and the jumped its sprocket and bent its valves , ect ect ect
