    Default What do you make of this statement re egr blocking.

    Just come across this on another forum, not read it on here so just wondered if anyone has any input.

    Lets not forget guys blocking the EGR is only half the job.
    As its the oil vapour from the engine breather that make the soot turn to sludge.

    I posted on this before the sever went down.

    The engine breather pipe goes the crap oil trap at the back of the engine shown here

    The pipe goes from the oil trap over the cam pulleys to where it joins the air intake in between the airfilter & turbo. So this is in effect unmeasured.

    This allows oil vapour in to the turbo, the boost pipe, throttle flap and Inlet manifold that then turns the soot in to sludge.
    So I removed the pipe as you can see, blanked off the open ended plastic cap & vented the engine breather pipe to under the front wheel arch from the metal pipe near the dip stick.

    A few on here have done that. Personally I would just blank that EGR valve off only. The oil won't do much - if any - harm on it's own.

    I think everyones looking for the light regarding this terrible design so this may be another option, wish i understood the engine more to comment. Mines started to behave like a metro under 2k so im guessing the egr gremlin is here to bite..

    The only issue with the oil is you can't get rid of it, it will always be there as the turbo itself (compressor side) spits oil into the air intake.

    It's the combination of EGR matter and oil which produces the sludge. Make one redundant - preferrably the EGR matter and sludge is eliminated. The oil is burned off in the engine enyway. The soot from the EGR valve survives the combustion and is partially recycled into the cylinders again. Pointless as it also increases cylinder wear.

    if it was me i would add one.. i was thinking of adding one to my engine but it doesn't have these issues... its an easy job to do and has to be worth it in the long run..

    Agree with you - oil alone is not going to coke the manifold up.

    However, if I had a low mileage DPF car, I would be tempted to ditch the CCV, as burning engine oil creates ash (which is why low ash oils are used in DPF cars) and ash buildup in the DPF is what ultimately ends their life.

    Oil vapour is burnt in the engine in a fairly uncontrolled way, as it is mixed uniformly with the intake charge, so there will be incomplete combustion (of the oil vapour), especially at low power.
