Default The problems just keep rolling on?

The problems just keep rolling on:

    Recap
Hunting and erratic revs (although smooth), whilst in the middle of sorting this: water pump seized, shattered and took out 16valves. So basically rebuilt/refurbed from the block up.

Picked it up and identified that it was not smooth and idle revs steady at 1100. Advised to run it for a few days to allow for learning.

Soaked the EGR and it started working – revs dropped to 600 BUT! this showed the miss firing up – code say no.2.

Garage said we need to cut out the possibility of the coil pack, bought one and put it on – still the same (another £65 wasted). Started moaning so today the garage arranged for a portable tech to test.

Nice bit of kit, blue tooth to their van! It showed up 2 faults, EGR (permanent) and no.2 miss fire (intermittent).

When I had the car back I was having problems starting it – now we know the problem for sure. I asked if he could bypass the EGR now or after it was blanked off. He said it will not make any difference and turned it off saying it will run ruff until you blank it.

The thing would not now start and when it did it would not hold idle revs! Held the revs at about 2000 and it was still missing. Diagnosis – mechanical, maybe air leak by no.2 cylinder, air inlet manifold or worse?

Left the car with them (no choice revs dropped like a ton of bricks). They are going to blank the EGR and investigate. At least they have lent me a car, I will only use it in emergencies because it is a bit of a knacker.

    An update and a question

I have got the feeling that my car is not top priority in the garage and that they are unsure of what the problem is! I do not understand why they are concentrating on the EGR if it as been switched off at the ECU, surely a blanking plate would discount that completely? Apparently they had blanked off the EGR on a temporary basis and the engine seemed fine but when they done it with a plate all was back to as it was.

I need your assistance here (and to help the garage: wink, wink) Leaving the EGR out of the equation, with it not holding revs and the only error code being intermittent misfiring on cylinder 2. What could be the causes?
