Default Glow Plugs or Temp Sensor?

My car wouldn't start this morning. Eventually got it started after turning over for ages. Obviously the plugs aren't working but I already knew that because the coil light has never come on before.

It hasn't been an issue as the weather has been warm and has always started first time.

Could this be something other than the plugs like the temp sensor? As surely the coil light would come on even if the plugs were faulty?

    Cheers

Try unplugging the temp sender plug, it would normall force the glow plugs on & bring up the light... the dti's don't normally use the glow plugs until the ambient temp is around 5*c or less

iirc... looking at the enging from the front bumper, it's on the left at the front, there's 2 close together... the top one of the 2 is the one to activate the glow plugs.

hmm, I'll have to try this too, I don't recall having seen the coil light at all, even when on ignition 1 when all lights are on, there is a crack bottom left of my instrument cluster, so filthy thoughts like a cluster swap for a petrol one, which would maybe explain why my revs on a 2.2dti are registering 500rpm less than what they should be, assuming the petrol and diesel clusters are different.

EDIT: ahh derr, of course they are different, RPMs lower on a diesel, so I do have a diesel one, need to check for the glo light then cos my car can take 7 or 8 cranks to start too.
